You can increase the size of your Windows 7 taskbar thumbnail previews by editing the Windows Registry. This native method requires no third-party software. Step 1: Open the Registry Editor Press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog box. Type regedit into the box. Press Enter or click OK. Click Yes if a User Account Control prompt appears. Step 2: Navigate to the Taskbar Key Look at the left sidebar of the Registry Editor.
Expand the folders to follow this exact path:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband
Click directly on the Taskband folder to view its contents in the right pane. Step 3: Create a New Registry Value Right-click any empty space inside the right-hand pane. Hover over New and select DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name this new value exactly MaxThumbSizePx and press Enter. Step 4: Set the Preview Size Double-click your newly created MaxThumbSizePx value.
Base options will appear; change the setting from Hexadecimal to Decimal.
Enter your desired preview size in pixels in the Value data field. Type 400 for a significantly larger, easy-to-see preview. Click OK to save the changes. Step 5: Restart Windows Explorer Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager. Click on the Processes tab. Find explorer.exe in the list. Right-click explorer.exe and select End Process. Your taskbar and desktop icons will temporarily disappear. Click File at the top left of the Task Manager. Select New Task (Run…). Type explorer.exe and click OK to bring your desktop back.
Hover your mouse over any open application icon on your taskbar. Your thumbnail previews will now display at the new, larger size. If you ever want to revert to the default size, simply return to the Taskband folder in the Registry Editor, right-click MaxThumbSizePx, and choose Delete.
